Top $ Raz / Summer Jam / Gentrification / New York

Kicking off our third year of our weekly talk show, The NY Hip Hop Report invited Queens/Brooklyn representative Top $ Raz to speak about his new album, Regular Black. The 9-track offering tackles some burning issues of the day as delivered by this talented, introspective artist.

Our topic for the evening included discussion about gentrification and New York City, and what, if any, were the effects on New York’s hip hop musical and cultural scenes.

Show hosts Manny Faces of Birthplace Magazine and Steve Ortiz delved into the topic, with Top $ Raz offering his insight, all while news was breaking that there were conflicts between authorities and concertgoers at the annual Hot 97 Summer Jam, held at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, an event that typically does not see such clashes erupt.

All of these discussions, plus new New York rap releases and previews of upcoming events (including our own Doin’ It In The Park jam, going down Sunday, June 21 at Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick, Brooklyn), on episode 121, the first of year three, of The NY Hip Hop Report with Manny Faces.
