New York Hip Hop Talk Radio – Presented by Birthplace Magazine (www.BirthplaceMag.com)
After an encore broadcast of a fascinating interview with television pioneer and hip hop icon Ralph McDaniels, show hosts Manny Faces and Steven Ortiz returned to the live e-airwaves to speak on several topics, including a recap of the Video Music Box 30-year anniversary kickoff event the two attended.
During that historic event, Steve Ortiz spoke with Harlem upstart artist Vinny Cha$e who was in attendance to sit on a panel orchestrated by hip hop scholor Martha Diaz and McDaniels, a talk revolving around the overall motto of the 30-year anniversary of Video Music Box, to “bridge the gap” between the “new school” and the “true school.” The short interview with Vinny Cha$e was broadcast during this episode.
Later in the show, the two spoke on an upcoming issue of hip hop magazine XXL, in which New York artists A$AP Rocky and French Montana are featured on the cover, with a proclamation stating that “NY’s Back!”
Manny Faces, founder and editor-in-chief of New York-focused online publication Birthplace Magazine, the presenting sponsor of The NY Hip Hop Report, posed the question to listeners and callers as to whether or not their relative success was good for the NY hip hop scene as a whole.
Caller Mark Carranceja, a film and video director and owner of Noisemaker Media, called in and gave his opinion on the matter.
