The NY Hip Hop Report – Episode 028 [November 25, 2012] – Discussing NY’s Rap Resurgence

New York Hip Hop Talk RadioFor the 28th weekly episode of The NY Hip Hop Report, we took it back to the beginning. The “why we are here” mantra. The reality that was predicted years ago by show host Manny Faces, when he created Birthplace Magazine: That New York hip hop was, contrary to popular belief, alive and well, a fact which would be slowly realized by mainstream media and hip hop fans, over time. Despite skepticism, this is exactly what seems to be happening, as the Mecca of hip hop is once again receiving the spotlight thanks to some mainstream artists as well as indie upstarts who are paving a new way for the birthplace of the music and culture.

Joining Manny, as always, was senior staff writer for BirthplaceMag.com Steve Ortiz, and the pair welcomed several phone calls during their discussion. Much of the talk was focused on Manny’s observations that many who lament the state of current hip hop, particularly more “purist” New Yorkers, fail to see the plethora of “good” hip hop being created and performed in and around NYC.

It was a great topic, a great discussion with several great calls. Check out the full episode below.

The NY Hip Hop Report with Manny Faces airs Sunday nights from 10p-11p on the BlogTalkRadio network. Archives are available here, as well as through a free subscription on iTunes
